The app’s two reminders

A warranty is not the same as your rights

A warranty is an extra promise from the manufacturer or retailer. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you separate rights when goods are faulty, and a warranty does not replace them. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland a claim can be brought up to six years after the breach of contract; in Scotland the limit is five years. That is a time limit for a claim, not a promise that an item must last that long.

What this page does not do

It does not read a receipt or a purchase record; enter the date yourself. It does not decide a claim either. That is between you, the retailer and the manufacturer, and the terms of the warranty decide what is covered.

    Warranty questions

How is the end date worked out?

The purchase date plus the whole number of years you choose. A leap-day purchase on 29 February plus one year ends on 28 February the next year. The custom months option adds whole months with the same month-end rule.

    What counts as “ending soon”?

The last 30 days, including the end date itself. The app’s two reminders are 30 days before the end date and on the day.

Is a warranty the same as my consumer rights?

No. A warranty is an extra promise from the manufacturer or retailer. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are separate, and a warranty does not replace them. The time limit for a claim is six years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and five years in Scotland, but that does not mean goods must last that long.

Can I add the reminders to my calendar?

Yes. Choose Add both to calendar and import the .ics file into Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook. The two events are all-day.

Does the app keep the receipt?

Pro can keep photos and documents on an item, so a scan of the receipt or the manual stays with the warranty details. The model, serial number, purchase date, retailer and warranty end date are on the item.
